Getting a high score on the ASVAB is necessary to qualify for an elite branch of the military. Just as life in the army, navy, air force, or marines requires self-discipline, so does studying for the ASVAB. To make the most of your studying time, use this guide to create your ideal ASVAB study plan. You'll need several ASVAB study guides, a timer, and a calendar.

On your calendar, block out all the times when you must to be in school or at work. Find free periods or breaks when you can study ASVAB material.

In order to score well on the ASVAB, you should take a full-length practice test once a week. To do this, you will need a stretch of two or three hours when you are completely free. Find a spot in the week when you can take a practice ASVAB at the same day and time every week. It may be in the morning on the weekend, or in the evening on a school night. Consistency will help you stay on schedule. Take the exams under timed conditions so that you will be prepared for exam day.

If you are taking many difficult classes in school, check your study schedule to make sure you have enough time to study for those classes. This might mean moving your ASVAB studies to midday breaks, or the time between coming home from school and eating dinner. If you want to attend college, don't neglect your other school work.

If you are studying for the ACT or SAT in addition to the ASVAB, you can often combine them. Many subject areas covered on the ASVAB overlap with those on the ACT and SAT, especially the reading and math.

Remember that your scores English and math sections of the ASVAB are the most important, since they determine your AFQT score. Prioritze your studies by focusing on two math and two English sections.

The more commited you are to a study schedule, the more focused you will be when you review ASVAB material. Take your ASVAB study appointments as seriously as you would take an appointment with a teacher or superior.
